Curatorial note
Seen at close range, the hat's multicolored ribbons spill across the frame, stitching a line of color through the subject's dark garments. Acquired January 2026, the portrait anchors the North Philadelphia streetscape as a portable archive of personal adornment. Within the collection, it stands as a study in texture, color, and presence, resisting legibility as a fixed identity and instead registering as a social surface.
